Ostrander Ski Hut: Yosemite at its Best

Winter is almost behind us. However, there is still lot of snow in the backcountry.

The Ostrander Ski Hut is located 10 miles away from Badger Pass (Yosemite NP) and is accessible either by snowshoe or skis with skins. Once again, the snow and the company were phenomenal.

Until next, travel safe. (More pictures)

Tanzania: An Amazing Adventure!

Last December, we had a chance to visit Africa. The first stop was the climb of Mt. Meru (4,650m), then a safari to the Northern Parks of Tanzania and finally an outback adventure to Southern Tanzania game reserve and national parks.

Each park visited is very unique and well worth a visit. Our true favorite was the Serengeti, with sighting of leopards at Seronera, the wildebeest migration at Ndutu and prides of lions devouring a kill at Lobo.

The eighth wonder of the world, Ngorongoro Crater, came as a close second. We spotted the last animal of the Big 5 family (Black rhino, elephant, hippo, lion and leopard).

In third place comes Ruaha National Park. Today, you can still experience the “old time” safari, with animals displaying their wild behaviors and hiding from cars and humans.

Arusha, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Selous game reserve were outstanding for viewing and photography opportunities.

If an African safari is on your future travel list, feel free to contact me for advices and trip planning. This is an experience of a life time not to be missed.

Until the next adventure, travel safe (more pictures).

Eastern Sierra, California

The California Eastern Sierras are a wonder anytime of the year, but particularly during the foliage.

The weather, even so unpredictable, will rarely dissapoint you if you are patient enough.

I experienced incredible lighting in Bishop on October 1st. 10 minutes after the sunset, the entire sky turned bright red.

It was an apocaliptic moment when the foreground started to light too.

I always thought that Galen Rowell used saturated filters to display these incredible sunsets in the Eastern Sierra.

Now, I know that it is actually real.

What a pleasant surprise ! (more pictures)

Utah National Parks: Lost in Time

The national parks in Southern Utah are not to be missed. The challenge is to plan for enough time at each park.

Arches is magnificent.
Canyonland is unique and breath taking. The size and varsity of this park wet your appetite for true wilderness and discovery of new frontiers.

Bryce shines a different look every season. You think that you have seen it all, until you start to explore its multi faceted landscape.

And for the well traveled adventurer, you know that we didn't even scratch the surface of the beauty and remoteness of Southern Utah.

Enjoy the beautiful contrast of the "red brick".

Pura Vida: Where did we travel?

This country has a very interesting history. They got on the map by exporting coffee, but realized that Ecotourism would benefit them long term. Today over 40% of the country is protected, fostering abundant wildlife.

The place is an animal paradise with over 51 species of hummingbirds ...

.. and many white-faced capucins.

Enjoy the adventure …. Oli & Judy

South America: Tango and Guanacos

In November 2003, we spent 10 days touring Argentina and Chile. Our itenary was truly amazing, as we balanced cultural visits and incredible culinary experience in Buenos Aires.

A stop at the Iguazu falls showed us the magic of waterfalls surrounded by rain forest.

Finally 5 days hiking from hut to hut in Los Torres del Paine (Patagonia) wet our outdoor spirit.

Another adventure not to be missed. Oli & Judy. (more pictures)
